It is the course about the different materials and their use in chemical and process engineering constructions.

The course is addressed to students of forth semester of field of study Industrial and engineering chemistry. Here you will find the description of pericyclic reactions, reactivity of functional groups including: hydroxy compounds, carbonyl compounds, amines. The reactivity of particular functional groups will be discussed. The detailed program is as follow:

Lectures

Pericyclic reactions: Diels –Alder reaction, cycloaddition [2 + 2], [2 + 4].

Electrocyclic rearrangements. Sigmatropic migrations of H and C (Claisen, Cope, Benzidine rearrangement).

1,3-Dipolar additions.

Reactivity of functional groups. Alcohols, aldehydes and ketones, carboxylic acids, their derivatives. Amines. Addition –elimination reactions

Rearrangements: Wagner –Meerwein, Pinacol, Beckmann, Neber, Hoffmann, Curtius, Lossen and Schmidt. Migration of boron. Rearrangement of hydroperoxides.

Carbohydrates: structure, nomenclature, mutarotation, simple derivatives
